Food is powerful and Audrey adores baking. It is her passion. “Whenever people ask for something, I will bake it for them…sometimes I bake in the kitchen here.”

I am gifted the chance to view her masterpieces. “I am self-taught…my cousin is on British TV…she’s much better than me.” Unlike when we scrolled through her son’s wedding photos and she pulsed with pride, as we scroll through images of her desserts, she cautiously swipes through pictures, uttering disclaimers about her skill.

Audrey Lo is an artist. Her Japanese cheesecake was gloriously beautiful and the strawberry mousse cake made me want to dash into the bakery across the street to satisfy my sudden craving for anything sweet. The more I saw, the more in awe I became and Audrey began to describe her dishes more confidently. She fed off of the positive energy that I exuded, and blossomed under my praise. Again, I was struck by her humble spirit.

"In Ten Years..."
“I’ll be making cakes at home for friends and family…that’s my hobby…I’m not trying to make money, it’s just my hobby. I have this passion for cooking…”
The warmth in Audrey’s eyes sparks something inside me…it makes me want to find (or rediscover) the something that fills me with a joy like Audrey’s.
“I don’t have a restaurant, but you don’t have to make money off of it…if it’s your passion, if you love doing it, then it will turn out great.”
